Career Change Dogs

Canine Angels strives to help as many dogs as possible to graduate from our program. Sometimes, however, there are dogs who are not suitable for assistance dog work. These “career change” dogs become available for adoption (if the families who raised them do not adopt them). Career change dogs are generally under 2 years of age, but can be older, and can also be retired breeders of any age.  The most common reasons for career change are behaviorally and medically-related.

All career change dogs are spayed or neutered. Adoptive families receive all of their dogs’ medical records and, if applicable, AKC paperwork. Canine Angels primarily uses Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Standard Poodles and crosses of these breeds, but we also accept other breeds into the program.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a released dog, please complete and submit an application.
